Film Review – The Legend Of Tarzan

Tarzan_R copy

With the historical background of Congo in the opening credits, Tarzan revisits his place of birth where he was raised by apes, but this time with his wife Jane Porter (Margot Robbie). Accompanied by US representative George Washington Williams (Samuel L. Jackson in an insipid role), Tarzan reaches the African shores to set matters right and set the slaves free.

The script of this latest Tarzan franchise is as threadbare as the loin-clothed Tarzan of the 20s and 30s was. On the positive side, the cinematographers have ensured that the visuals are arresting. So are the periodic flashbacks, which delineate Tarzan’s conception and his first meeting with Jane.

The 19th to portray Tarzan, Alexander Skarsgard’s version is a far cry from the one conceptualized by its originator Edgar Rice Burroughs.

  • Film Review – GONE KESH

Going… going… gone! It’s literally a hair-raising experience when the departing substance refers to a female’s tresses, which, in some cultures and societies, is her most treasured asset. ‘Gone Kesh’ is a bold subject, especially when one realises that an almost two-hour film is woven around such a delicate subject. Enakshi Dasgupta (Shweta Tripathi), who lives…

Phillauri is the story of a friendly but confused ghost and age-old traditions, peppered quite liberally with Punjabi folk songs. Kannan (Suraj Sharma – Life of Pi) is a Canada-returned Punjabi boy due to marry his childhood sweetheart Anu (a comely Mehreen Kaur Pirzada in her first Hindi film). But as the disinterested Kannan is…
