Solidarity: The Need Of The Hour

Dear Readers,
One of the strongest similarities today between our nation and our community is the need for solidarity. Now, more than ever, we need to unite firmly in both our fundamental capacities – as Indian citizens and as members of our beloved community. As citizens, we need to stand in firm solidarity, supporting our valiant Army, which unfortunately faces flack instead of praise for taking action to protect our interests, by some political factions blinded by myopic, anti-nationalistic agendas.

And as proud, thinking members of our Parsi/Irani community, we need to express solidarity in standing up against those who plan to or continue pillaging the pride and prosperity of our community, and who work against or obstruct the functioning of organisations from working towards the welfare of our community members. It’s time to raise our voice and actively support those who fight for the collective cause of the community.

Solidarity does not call for all of us to have the exact same beliefs and opinions – solidarity is about coming together with one intention for the same cause – immaterial of our individual differences. Getting together for a common purpose enhances our community’s interconnectedness without expecting us to be opinion-clones of each other.
In the words of Pope John Paul II, “Solidarity is not a feeling of vague compassion or shallow distress at the misfortunes of so many people, both near and far. On the contrary, it is a firm and persevering determination to commit oneself to the common good; that is to say to the good of all and of each individual, because we are all really responsible for all.”

As a community, we truly are responsible for each other. And only solidarity can ensure our progress and happiness.

Have a relaxed weekend!
