Churchgate: Officially known as Veer Nariman Street, the origin of the name Churchgate is dated back to 18th century. The term ‘church’ came from St. Thomas Church located half a kilometre away from the railway station and the term, ‘gate’ owes its origin to a gate that was located on the spot where Flora Fountain stands now. The term ‘church’ and ‘gate’ combined together to form ‘Churchgate’. Churchgate is famous for ‘Churchgate Railway Station’, the terminus of Western railway line and the headquarters of Western Railway.
Fashion Street: One of the Mumbai’s most popular and oldest markets, Fashion Street (FS) refers to a cluster of over 385 street side clothing shops lined in two separate rows. Mirroring typical flea markets, it is a popular tourist destination especially known for bargaining. In January 2011, as a part of the green drive of BMC along with Fashion Street Shop Owners’ Association, the market at FS stopped the use of plastic bags and switched to paper bag, made by the training workshop of the National Association of the Blind.
