Dear Readers,

I know I speak for all of us when I say it’s disparaging as a self-respecting Parsi, to witness our community making news in the national dailies for the wrong reasons, yet again. It is not just common, but also healthy, for any community to have differences – we are, after all, regarded as the nation’s most educated and progressive community – and differences between our well-meaning, free-thinking factions with regard to beliefs, solutions and other preferences, are expected. However, making an unnecessary show of our community’s discord in the national media, not only further fuels any conflicts, but ends up undoing more than just our hitherto immaculate reputation… it gnaws at our very legacy.

We are an intelligent people. Immaterial of our differing beliefs, we know the pain-points and we know where the solutions lie. Parsi Times will continue endeavouring towards providing the community with necessary, relevant and authentic information because knowledge is power and the truth dispels all fear. Our front page story interviewing the erstwhile Parsi Member of the National Commission For Minorities, Pardma Shri Keki Daruwalla, hopes to achieve just that. The past week had the PT office receive innumerable letters and e-mails from our community members all across Bombay, India and abroad. We are unable to accommodate all the mails in this issue, but have tried to do justice to your voices by dedicating ample space to ensure you are heard. (Pgs. 4-6; 12-13). I thank you for your continued patronage and encourage you to keep sharing with us your opinions/
feedback.

On a more pleasant note, I hope you’ve got your surprises and gifts in place for May 14th, a day dedicated to the most important woman in our lives – our Mothers! Yes, it’s Mother’s Day tomorrow so do make the most of today to ensure you bring happiness and huge smiles to your mothers, and all mother-figures that you’re blessed to have in your life!
In addition to Mother’s Day, Sunday also heralds the start of ‘Bahman Mahino’ for our Kadmi brethren – so here’s wishing more power to all who follow the mandated vegetarian footsteps for the month (probably the most challenging task for any true-blooded Parsi!); and here’s a heartfelt Happy Mother’s Day wish to all mothers and women who love (and tolerate) children… and finally, a wish and a prayer to the universe seeking Ahura Mazda’s blessings for wisdom and harmony within our community.
Have a good weekend!
