England In Semis – Champions Trophy 2017: Hosts England beat New Zealand by 87 runs, becoming the first team to cruise into the semi-finals. The Kiwis’ batting line up failed to beat England’s 310 in 49.3 overs. Contributions came from batsmen Alex Hales (56), Joe Root (64), Ben Stokes (48) and Jos Buttler (61). Amongst the New Zealand bowlers Adam Milne and Corey Anderson grabbed 3 wickets each. New Zealand collapsed at 223 in 44.3 overs. Jake Ball was awarded ‘Man of the Match’.

India Beat Pakistan In Champions Trophy: Rain played spoil sport during the game between arch rivals India and Pakistan. India emerged victorious by 124 runs according to the DLS method as Pakistan’s innings were reduced to 41 overs. Batting first, India made 319-6 in 48 overs. Rohit Sharma contributed an impressive 91, while Shikhar Dhawan scored 68, Yuvraj Singh made a quickfire 53. Skipper Virat Kohli and Hardik Pandya remained unbeaten on scores of 81(68) and 20 (6) respectively. Pakistan couldn’t get going and were bowled out 164 in 33.4 overs. Umesh Yadav was the pick of the bowlers scalping 3 wickets while Hardik Pandya and Ravindra Jadeja picked 2 wickets each. India has now beaten Pakistan in 13 matches in ICC tournaments. Yuvraj Singh won ‘Man of the Match’.

B Sai Praneeth Wins Thailand Open: India’s third seed B Sai Praneeth beat Jonatan Christie 17-21, 21-18, 21-19 and won the Thailand Open Grand Prix Gold Badminton Title.

TENNIS

Bopanna And Dabrowski Enter French Open Mixed Doubles Final: India’s star tennis player Rohan Bopanna and Canadian tennis partner Gabriela Dabrowski beat rivals Andrea Hlavackova and Edouard Roger-Vasselin 7-5, 6-3 in the semi-finals of the French Open. They will face Germany’s Anna- Lena Groenefeld and Colombia’s Robert Farah in the finals.

Annu Rani Makes India Proud: Javelin thrower Annu Rani set a new National record with a throw of 61.86 meters winning the gold in the Federation Cup 2017, qualifying for the World Athletic Championships in August.
