India’s Women In Blue To Take On England In ICC Womens World Cup Finals: Harmanpreet Kaur’s heroic performance commanding a massive unbeaten 171, ensured a comprehensive win for the Indian Women by 36 runs, defeating Australia in the 2^nd Semi-Final clash in Derby. The match was reduced to 42 overs due to rain. Batting first, India scored 281-4. Australia succumbed to pressure and at one stage, were reduced to 154-8 in 30.2 overs, finally managing 245 in 40.1 overs. Blackwell top-scored with 90. India’s Deepti Sharma grabbed 3 important wickets. Harmanpreet Kaur was awarded ‘Player of the Match’.

England Storm Into Finals Of ICC Womens World Cup: England won a thrilling encounter against South Africa, by 2 wickets in the 1^st Semi-Finals. Batting first, South Africa notched up 218-6 in 50 overs, courtesy Mignon du Preez (76*) and Laura Wolvaardt (66). England bowlers Anya Shrubsole, Natalie Sciver, Jenny Gunn and Heather Knight took one wicket each. In reply, England lost quick wickets and were reduced to 145-5 in 33.6 overs. Wicket keeper Sarah Taylor top scored with 54. For South Africa, Ayabonga Khaka and Sune Luus picked two wickets each while Shabhim Ismail, Marizanne Kapp and Moseline Daniels snapped up 1 wicket apiece. Sarah Taylor was awarded ‘Player of the Match’.

Roger Federer Wins Eighth Wimbledon Title: 35-year-old Swiss tennis star, Roger Federer beat his Croatian counterpart Marin Cilic 6-3, 6-1, 6-4 to get himself listed in the Men’s Tennis Record Book. At 35, he has become the oldest Wimbledon Champion in the Open Era. In great form through this year’s competition, he clinched the title without dropping a single set. Interestingly, this was Roger Federer’s 8^th Wimbledon title, which he won with his 8^th Ace in the finale, in which he lost 8 games (sub-sets)!

Muguruza Crowned Wimbledon Champion: Spain’s Garbine Muguruza thrashed Venus Williams 7-5, 6-0 to secure her first Wimbledon title. This is Muguruza’s second title adding to the French Open which she won last year.

WORLD PARA ATHLETIC CHAMPIONSHIPS

Amit Makes India Proud: India’s Amit Kumar Saroha won silver in the Men’s Club Throw F51 event in the World Para Athletic Championships. His best throw of 30.25m came in his third attempt and helped him clinch a medal for India.
