‘Parsi Passport’ Tour For XYZ’s Rustom’s Rockstars

On 11th February, 2018, the Xtremely Young Zoroastrians’ Bandra Chapter, ‘Rustom’s Rockstars’ (RR) organized ‘The Parsi Passport’ that helped children get acquainted with our culture and heritage by visiting various Parsi monuments all over Mumbai. The tour included visits to ‘Mancherji Joshi Memorial Statue’, ‘Della Tower’ depicting Persian architecture, in Dadar Parsee Colony; the 40-feet tall ‘Khada Parsi’ statue at Byculla erected in memory Seth Cursetjee Maneckjee, ‘JJ College of Architecture’, ‘J N Petit Institute Library’, ‘Cawasji Jehangir Hall’, ‘Jehangir Art Gallery’, ‘Bhikha Behram Well’, ‘Adenwalla Statue’, ‘Tata Palace’ and other relevant places and structures providing insights into historical and cultural prominence of each. Following a traditional Parsi lunch at ‘Ideal Corner’, the group proceeded towards ‘Taraporewala Aquarium’, Sir Ratan Tata Institute’ (RTI) and the ‘War Memorial’ at Kharegat Colony. On their way back, the bus halted at ‘Mahim Causeway Bridge’ built between 1841 and 1846 by wife of the first baronet Sir Jamsetjee Jeejeebhoy for Rs. 1,57,000/-, to connect the island of Salsette with Mahim, with a condition that the government would not charge a toll for its use or disturb the Koli community who lived around the area. The excursion ended with a visit to the ‘Mount Mary Steps’ that connects Hill Road with Mount Mary Road, and was built by Sir Jamshedji Jejeebhoy in 1879, as an offer of gratitude for answering his prayers and blessing him with a daughter. Having notice that the plaques honouring the magnificent donations of these Parsis were rusted and illegible, young RR members have decided to conduct a signature drive and approach necessary authorities to ensure that the two cement plaques at the Mount Mary Church are made legible.
