Behram Baug Holds 5th Premier League
Behram Baug held its 5th Box Cricket tournament, ‘The Behram Baug Premier League’ on 5th and 6th May, 2018. Organized by Karl Siganporia, Zrvan Elavia, Shanaya Udwadia, Anahita Siganporia, Hanosh Panthaki, Yazad Wadia, Arish Siganporia and Shazmaan Kalwachwalla, a grand auction of all players was held prior to the event, after which 98 participants over 14 mixed teams fought to win the coveted title of champions. The format comprised first the league stage, followed by quarter finals, semi-finals and the finals.
The final faceoff was held between Hidden Crows and Blue Thunder. Winning the toss, Blue Thunder elected to bat and posted a huge 74 in their allotted 7 overs. Hanosh Panthaki top scored with 33. In reply, Hidden Crows managed 64 in their 7, with Meherzad Dalal scoring 30. Hanosh was the pick of the bowlers, taking three wickets. Blue Thunder comprising Delzad Vapiwala, Shanaya Udwadia, Zubin Chothia, Paurushasp Bangalee, Rayan Vazifdar, Arnaz Doctor and Hanosh Panthaki won the tournament by 10 runs.
The ‘Best Veteran Player’ was awarded to Nariman Elavia, while Khurshid Vajifdar and Hanosh Panthaki were adjudged ‘Best Female’ and ‘Male Player’ of the tournament, respectively. Arman Anklesaria was declared ‘Best Upcoming Player’. Encouraging more girls/women to participate in the tournament, a special award was given to Khurshid Vajifdar for ‘Best Female Player’ in the memory of Late Rustom J. Bulsara by wife Homai Bulsara.
Chief Guests for the evening, BPP Chairman Yazdi Desai and his wife Anahita Desai announced this year’s annual cash reward instituted in honour of Diana Edulji for her outstanding contribution to Indian Cricket, yet again to Khurshid Vajifdar. Speaking to Parsi Times, Yazdi Desai said, “Behram Baug has been organizing an IPL-like cricket tournament for all residents where teams are owned and sponsored by various people. As Chief Guests for the final, this is one of the best events I have ever attended.”
The post-match presentation ceremony was conducted by Zubin Chothia who thanked the Trustees of Behram Baug Parsi Colony for their support, as also Farzana Motafaram, Shehzarin Udwadia, Ervad Farzad Ravji and Delnaaz Ravji, Perce and Phiroza Siganporia, Purvez Buxy, Soli Kodia and all team owners.
