Tanaz Noble Makes Kayaking History!

Tanaz Noble, the country’s first woman solo kayaker and local resident of Port Blair, Andaman and Nicobar Islands, became the first Indian kayaker to have successfully kayaked 70 nautical miles of open seas in just 36 hours. On 14th April, 2018, Tanaz started her kayak expedition at 5:30 am from Chidiyatapu, with a night halt at North Brother Island. She completed 70 nautical miles kayaking in the high seas at Little Andaman, thus becoming the only woman to have successfully completed this feat in India.

Tanaz has been doing smaller expeditions regularly and in the past, she has completed 6 solo sea kayak expeditions within the islands. “My father has always been my inspiration and encouraged me to live out my dreams. He played an instrumental role in achieving this feat,” said Tanaz who has been pursuing her passion for the sport since the age of 22 and decided to approach the Sports Authority of India to learn kayaking.

In 2015, she Kayaked 100 km in 11 hours overnight, from Barren Island to Havelock via English Island, followed by a Kayaking stint from Rangat to Havelock via Long Island and North Passage Island. She credits the Port Management Board and the Indian Navy for keeping a track on her throughout her expeditions. “These expeditions are done abroad but no one does them in India. Honestly, I have done this with the hope to tempt more Kayakers to venture out into the sea and I hope it will work,” says Tanaz.
