Dr. Cyres Mehta Is First Indian To Be Honoured With ‘Presbymania’ Award

Continuing his inspiring and ceaseless streak of receiving awards and honours, doing the Community and the nation extremely proud with his expertise as the leading Ophthalmologist of our times – Dr. Cyres Mehta became the very first Indian to be awarded the prestigious ‘Presbymania’ Award on 17th May, 2019, in a glittering, global awards ceremony held at Katowice, in Poland.

Dr. Cyres was felicitated with the ‘Presbymania’ Award by Professor Ewa Kominek, President of the Polish Ophthalmological Society, and Board Member of the European Society for Cataract and Refractive Surgery, at the Annual International Congress: ‘Innovations in Ophthalmology’. He was also awarded with the ‘Best Paper Award for his pathbreaking findings on the ‘Surgical Treatment of Presbyopia’.

Presbyopia is an eye affliction, which results in long-sightedness (inability to see things clearly at small distances, calling for reading glasses) caused by loss of elasticity of the lens of the eye, occurring typically in people who have crossed the age of forty. Dr. Cyres Mehta now introduces an alternative, with his unparalleled expertise and state-of-the-art equipment, providing surgical solutions for this new ‘extended depth of focus’ lenses, which are easily implanted in the eye through a minute (1.8 mm) opening created by laser. The entire procedure is over in just three to four minutes! Dr. Cyres presented his surgical videos to a rapt audience of over a thousand people, from across numerous European countries.

Speaking to Parsi Times on the proud occasion, Dr. Cyres Mehta said, “I’m humbled and privileged to be the first one to bring this honour home, to India, by simply staying true to my passion and my profession – healing.
