#TheJoshIsGreen At Wilson College!
Every year, the BMS Department of Mumbai’s Wilson College performs exemplary CSR activities, titled HOPE (Help Our People Elevate) carried out by its students. With this year’s focus being ‘Tree Plantations’ the dynamic students have an online campaign, with the official hashtag – #TheJoshIsGreen – with each student committing to plant a sapling, anywhere appropriate in the city, and passing on the challenge to his/her friends to do the same – thus creating a cycle.
Under the able leadership of Principal Anna Pratima Nikalje and Vice Principal/SFC Coordinator, Dr. Zuleika Homavazir of Wilson College, the students of the BMS Department are taking strong and meaningful steps towards greener change in the society. In the 12th year of their CSR – HOPE Initiative, they have decided to work towards creating a Green India. The students celebrate the essence of ‘Van Mahotsav’ – an initiative of the GoI’s Forest Ministry, celebrated from 1st to 7th July, 2019, focusing on ‘Deforestation’ and aiming at creating awareness and a positive impact in society. To further empower this initiative, the BMS students have coined #TheJoshIsGreen challenge, to take place during this period, which will have people across the country being challenged to plant at least one tree in their vicinity, after which they would be challenging two other people to plant trees in their respective neighbourhoods. Free plant sapling were distributed and stalls were set up, with the help of the Forest Department, under the guidance of Division Forest Officer (DFO) – ACF Lachke of LRP, Thane. On 9th July, the students plan to plant over 1200 saplings at Rabale area, with a vision of creating a healthier and happier tomorrow.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Zuleika Homavazir said, “The greatest threat to our planet is the belief that someone else will save it. Start planting trees today for yourself and your future generations. Spread the word of how important plants are and encourage each other to plant more trees.”
