“Speak when you are angry and you will make the best speech you will ever regret”
– Ambrose Bierce

Christian philosophy identifies and warns us against the seven deadly sins – these are: Pride, Greed, Lust, Envy, Gluttony, Wrath and Sloth. What is categorized as deadly sins are also human failings. At some time or the other, in our lives, we have all fallen prey to the vicious grip of any of these sins. Anger is indeed the best companion of the evil ‘Angrehmainyu’.  Today, we discuss the detrimental effects of wrath or what is commonly known as, ‘anger’.

Anger preys on the immune system, it makes a person susceptible to infections. It also damages the internal organs, especially the alimentary canal. And these are just the physical effects. Anger is the cancer of relationships. An angry person severely hampers the wellbeing of those who are near and dear to him. It causes stress in children, who then turn to adverse habits like lying, smoking, alcoholism or drug abuse, which can even lead to depression and addictions.

The first step towards curing this malaise is to acknowledge it. Once you own your truth, you can heal yourself. Anger normally stems from a deep sorrow or pain which needs to heal before you can start living normally. Living with a person who suffers from anger (yes, it’s a disease) can be draining on all levels. The person who is on the receiving end of this anger cannot cope with this emotion and if continually exposed, they can withdraw or escape by severing the relationship.

Like always, there is a very powerful manthra which can combat anger. It will cure the one who is angry and even help you, if you are having to face the painful brunt of someone else’s anger. It is the 62nd attribute of Pak Dadar Ahura Mazda, ‘Adar Namgar’ – meaning the one who changes ‘Fire into Water’. It can change the fiery nature of a hot-headed person to being gentle and calm, just like still waters.  The person chanting this name will experience serenity and peace within themselves. It is also beneficial to chant this name for someone else who may be having anger issues. This name should be recited 101 times daily for maximum benefit. Of course, it is also extremely beneficial to pray the ‘Mah Bokhtar Nyaish’ for anything related to anger.

So, manage your anger before it manages to destroy you and all that you hold dear!
