Hyderabad’s Bai Maneckbai Nusserwanji Chenoy Fire Temple Celebrates Glorious 117th Salgreh
A Jashan ceremony was held on the occasion commemorating the grand 117th Salgreh of the Bai Maneckbai Nusserwanji Chenoy Agiary, Hyderabad, on 17th September, 2021 (Roj Ardibehest, Mah Ardibehest, 1391 YZ) at 10:00 am. This was followed by a Humbandagi, paying homage to the founder of the Agiary and a short religious discourse by the Head Priest, Er. Mehernosh H. Bharucha. Light refreshments were served to community members who attended the lovely ceremony. A contributory Thanksgiving Machi was also offered to the Padshah Saheb in the evening.
The Bai Maneckbai Nusserwanji Chenoy Agiary is one of the oldest structures in Hyderabad. It was consecrated on October 16, 1904 (Roj Ardibehest, Mah Ardibehest, 1274 YZ). The foundation stone of the Agiary was laid by Bai Putlibai Maneckshaw Chenoy in memory of Bai Maneckbai Nusserwanji Chenoy and Maneckshaw Sorabji Chenoy. It was awarded the HUDA Heritage Building award in 2001.
The unique aspect about this Agiary is that, unlike others, it is patterned on the Greek architectural style. The façade flaunts gothic features and the deep, recessed verandah adds to the structure’s elegance. The front has wide, inviting stairs and an Afarganyu marking the top of the entrance.
Despite the small numbers of the Parsi community in Hyderabad, it has greatly contributed towards the social, economic and political development of the capital city in the state of Telangana.
