Turel, a world-class neurosurgeon internationally recognized due to his vast experience in brain operations for top difficulty cases. He is also the Consultant Neurosurgeon, Chairman Emeritus, Dept of Neurosurgery – Bombay Hospital Institute of Medical Sciences.

This is perhaps the first time an Indian Neurosurgeon Is honoured thus. Our miniscule Zoroastrian Community, despite its microscopic size, has produced some of the most outstanding leaders in almost all fields of life. “I am humbled to be found befitting the title ‘Masters of Neurosurgery’ by this august body of the world,” said Dr. Keki Turel, who is also the Managing Trustee at Mumbai Institute of Neurosciences and Chairman – WFNS Committee: Complications in Neurosurgery. The advice and treatments he offers are holistic and practical, considering the socio-economic well-being, at the same time being scientific, utilizing the latest data and technology.

What’s his secret of success? “I try to keep improving every day, competing with myself, and searching for solutions to problem cases – be it finding a novel approach, or designing a new instrument. Learning does not occur only by observing or discussing with my peers but also by listening to everyone around. The secret lies in 3 Ds – Discipline, Determination and Dedication, by remaining young in mind and body, and open to change, and not allowing your ego to block your growth,” answers the wise Dr. Turel.

Founded in 1955, The World Federation of Neurosurgical Societies (WFNS) is a professional, scientific, non-governmental organization comprising of 130 member societies, consisting of 5 Continental Associations, 119 National Neurosurgical Societies and 6 Affiliate Societies, representing over 30,000 neurosurgeons worldwide.
