Breathe Easy… But Don’t Get Too Laid Back!

Dear Readers,

With Covid cases finally declining to a trickle (comparatively) in Mumbai, the State Govt. has finally, after two long years, lifted those rather troublesome and tedious restrictions. Mumbaikars are able to literally breathe easy again and take that unhindered sigh of relief, as the last of the remaining curbs were finally done away with, including wearing masks, which has now been made optional. Vaccination will also no longer be mandatory to travel in public transport or visit public places.

With the pandemic still on its last legs and not well and truly over yet, doing away with the mask mandate seemed like a surprising decision. The Health Minister, however, did add that though wearing masks wasn’t mandatory anymore, people were advised to keep their masks on in public places for their own safety and that of others, citing countries like the USA, the UK and other parts of Europe, which have been witnessing new covid strains and new waves of infection.

So, let’s not be in too much of a hurry to rush back to the ‘Normal as we knew it’. The one lesson we’ve learnt through the pandemic is life is full of surprises and we can never be prepared enough for the bad ones… but more than all else, being unintelligent, thoughtless or careless aren’t really options anymore. So, while we get to breathe easy, let’s not get too laid back… at least not yet!

Have a good weekend!

– Anahita
