Dadysett Agiary Re-opens For Devotees

On 9th June, 2023, one of the community’s landmark and most cherished places of worship, the Dadysett Agiary, will re-open its doors for worshippers to pray in its original hall, which was earlier used by devotees. The second oldest Agiary in Mumbai, established in 1771, the Dadysett Agiary has been undergoing renovation over the past three months, which included having original Burma teak wood beams in place of the earlier wornout ones, new wiring, plastering and painting, and floor polishing.

The Agiary opened its doors with an elaborate religious ceremony to re-instate the sacred fire back into kebla, or the sanctum sanctorum, where it will continue to burn through the night and day. The holy fire was earlier moved to another structure in the compound due to the ongoing renovations.

The Agiary was built by the Dadysett family upon a piece of land owned by them. When the temple was moved to its current location in 1803, it was consecrated under Kadimi rights, but is frequented by all Zarthostis. It is looked after most ably by Er. Darayesh Katrak, who is also the Trust Secretary. The Agiary will celebrate its salgreh on 2nd August, 2023.
