K11 Fitness Funda – ‘Estrogen – The Feminine Hormone’

Widely known and discussed of all hormones, it is Estrogen that makes every woman feminine, enthusiastic, outgoing, happy, in great mood and full of energy! It gives a woman her smooth skin, her curves and the ability to create life. It protects a woman’s bones, joints and heart.

Estrogen works with calcium, Vit D and other hormones to build bone and prevent its loss. Bone loss is rapid once Estrogen levels begin to decline (begins by mid 30s…yes… as early as this!!). By the time a woman is menopausal, the body breaks down more bone than it rebuilds. The risk of fractures increases making her lose independence and incur financial burden.

It’s time to take action…

  1. A woman can build physical capital by accumulating bone mineral and improve bone density. Regular weight training is the best way to do it. Dense bones keep a woman protected against joint problems arising from arthritis, osteopenia and osteoporosis.
  2. Menopausal women are at greater risk for increase in Blood pressure and Triglycerides (fats in the blood) and decreased flexibility of arteries, leading to various forms of heart problems. A strong fit heart is the best armour against disease. Regular cardiovascular exercise (swimming, cycling, jogging) through an activity that you enjoy most goes a long way in building that defence.
