Red Flags, Silver Linings

I can’t seem to help but notice how some events, which have been unfolding in our community, seem to develop a pattern displaying Red Flags leading to Silver Linings. Even as the Community awaits, with bated breath, the legal verdict on the plea against the continuation of the Metro tunnelling under the Anjuman and Wadiaji Atash Behrams, one cannot help but feel pride in the continued show of solidarity displayed all across our Community, in the form of the ‘Save Our Atash Behram’ Movement. Even though the red flag, heralding the potential threat to the structural and spiritual sanctity of our places of worship, still flutters, the silver lining to this red flag, in the form of our Community’s steadfast unity, shines right through… coming in at a much-needed time… when the community has been increasingly subject to in-fighting and our image splashed negatively across national media.

Another untoward incident, which yet again resulted in the community unifying, was the recent one in support of our community member, Sharukh Engineer, who lives in honesty as an Uber driver, and was heinously assaulted by an ill-tempered individual. When I connected with him soon after his ill-fated tryst to have the story covered (Pg.08), I was inspired by his show of grace under pressure in his ability to think beyond his own terrifying ordeal and share a message with the community about keeping one’s temper in check, especially on the roads, and to remember we have family waiting for us at home! It reminded me of Udvada’s tragic train accident, which may have claimed both the legs of Aspi Sepoy, but fortified his spirit, with the entire community rallying behind him, to become its ‘Braveheart’, with his indomitable spirit and unyielding courage.

Look around closely and we will identify innumerable such red flags and silver linings in our everyday lives. Sometimes, we are able to avert potential disasters and sometimes we aren’t. In either case, let’s never forget there will always be a silver lining shining at us, as long as we stay united.
