Empowering Mobeds Conduct Heritage Walk

On 9th December, 2018, the team of Empowering Mobeds organized a heritage walk to highlight various Parsi monuments, institutions and statues around South Mumbai’s Fort area. Attended by children of Bai Avabai Petit Girls’ High School and Dadar Athornan Madressa, the group took its first halt at the Bhikha Behram Well where Er. Hormuz Dadachanji and Kerman Fatakia elucidated its glorious history, and Er. Farzad Driver provided insights into the lives of Sir Jamsetjee Jeejeebhoy and Cowasjee Dinshaw near their statues. The next destination included the 309-year-old Banaji Limji Agiary, Mumbai’s oldest Agiary and one of the few Agiaries which performs the seventeen-day Nirangdin ceremony. Er. Firdaus Pavri spoke on the significance of the 285-year-old Maneckji Navrosji Sett Agiary, Mumbai’s second oldest Agiary known for its beautiful architecture and interior decor inspired from the Persian, Roman and Greek design; and shared how the Godavara Gamadia Agiary, was the former house of First Baronet Sir Jamsetjee Jeejeebhoy. The next stop was the Langrana Godiwalla Agiary, followed by the Dadabhoy Navroji Statue, where Er. Meher Mody highlighted the life of The Grand Old Man Of India who was the first Indian representative in the London parliament and also founded the Indian National Congress. The walk concluded at the Bhikha Behram Well with Er. Meher Modi delivering a short, significant talk on the legacy left behind by our stalwarts. This was followed by refreshments.
