Former Test Umpire Dara Dotiwalla Passes Away

Former Test Umpire Dara Dotiwalla, who officiated in the famous tied Test match between India and Australia in 1986 at Chennai, passed away after a prolonged illness on 30 January, 2019, at the age of 85, at his residence in Mumbai.

Born on October 30, 1933, Dara Dotiwalla officiated in six Test matches and eight ODIs between 1982 and 1988. He is best remembered for officiating the Tied Test between India and Australia in Madras (now Chennai) in September 1986. Dotiwalla made his Test debut as an umpire in 1982, officiating the Test Match between India and England in Kanpur. His last assignment as a Test Umpire was between India and the West Indies in 1987. He was given a traditional funeral at the Tower of Silence on 31 January, 2019.
