Jimmy Engineer Bestowed Habib Jalib Peace Award
On 2nd May, 2019, Pakistan-based eminent painter, Jimmy Engineer was felicitated with the 13th Habib Jalib Peace Award, at the Arts Council in Karachi. Engineer thanked the Award Committee for bestowing the honour on him. He shared that the late Jalib was the people’s much loved poet, who struggled all his life for the rights of the masses. Chief Guest – Justice Rashid Razvi appreciated the Awards Committee for having chosen a deserving candidate for the honour.
Aqeel Abbas Jafri, Pakistani writer, poet and architect, as also Chief Editor of Pakistan’s Urdu Dictionary Board introduced 65-year-old Jimmy Engineer to the audience. He spoke of Engineer’s father and how he kept his profession (engineering) as part of his name. He shared that Jimmy attended St. Anthony High School in Lahore, followed by FC College and then the National College of Arts (NCA) where he was influenced by art maestros. His inclination towards art was since his school days, with one of his paintings titled, ‘The Peacock’ being noticed and impressing many art lovers, done at the tender age of six! Pursuing his passion for painting, Jimmy ended up painting his famous ‘Partition’ series. Jimmy Engineer is also the recipient of the Sitara-i-Imtiaz.
