ESCRS Honours Dr. Cyres Mehta in Paris

India’s leading eye surgeon, renowned globally for his path-breaking research and for constantly setting new standards and breakthroughs worldwide in eye care, Dr. Cyres Mehta, keeps adding to the feathers in our Community very proud cap! Dr. Cyres was invited by the prestigious European Society Of Eye Surgeons to Paris to attend the 37th Congress of the European Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgeons (ESCRS), which took place from 14th to 18th September, 2019, at the Paris Expo Porte de Versailles, in Paris.

Attended by over 9,500 eye surgeons from across 50 countries worldwide, the event witnessed record participation – which further added to the honour bestowed to Dr. Cyres – as normally even the most famous eye surgeons get to present one course, but he was asked to present three – in keeping with his unparalleled genius in the eye-care arena. Not surprisingly, his courses witnessed maximum turnout, with over 1,200 people packing the hall to hear him, each time! He discussed and taught robotic cataract surgery, glaucoma surgery and other challenging situations.

Dr. Cyres Mehta was appointed as Scientific Chairman of the ‘International Society of Bilateral Cataracts Surgeons’ for a second consecutive term of three years! He is acclaimed as the very first Indian board member of Eurotimes – the most widely-read eye magazine in the world.

Felicitations and awards – both national and global – have been pouring in, in recognition of our community’s eye prodigy for his unparalleled contributions in advanced eye care and extremely complicated procedures and treatments. Dr. Cyres became the very first Indian to be awarded the prestigious ‘Presbymania Award’ (17th May, 2019) in Poland and in February, he was awarded the ‘International Hero Of Indian Ophthalmology’ by the All-India Ophthalmologists Society (AIOS), in Indore.
