Jashn-e-Sadeh Celebrated At Karachi Parsi Institute

On January 30th, 2022, the members of the Zarthosthi community in Karachi gathered at the Karachi Parsi Institute to commemorate the festival of ‘Jashn-e-Sadeh’ – the day that marks 50 days and nights before Nowruz. Jashn-e-Sadeh is a mid-winter festival, celebrated before the advent of the spring season and symbolizes the end of the cold winter season, signifying lengthier days and shorter nights.

The event, which was organized by the Karachi Zarthosti Banu Mandal, started with an explanation about the significance of the festival and an insight into its interesting history. The Atash Niyaesh was then recited by the priests present – Er. Farzin Yazeshni and Er. Sohrab Hangomi, who currently serve the Wadia Dar-e-Meher, at Pakistan Chowk, Karachi.

The procession was then led by the priests with the Atash being taken to a bonfire, being lit at the gymkhana grounds of The Karachi Parsi Institute. Children from the community were also a part of this procession and helped in lighting the bonfire. The evening was spent around the fire with music and dancing, and everyone enjoying with friends and family.
