FOZAWAC Table-Tennis: Parsee Gymkhana Reigns Supreme

The ebbing of the pandemic prompted FOZAWAC to hold the Table-tennis tournament after a gap of two years. 55 players, from places including Pune, Navsari and Surat, participated in the 2-day event, held at the Sir Ness Wadia Pavilion, in Rustom Baug, on 14th and 15th May, 2022.

The first morning kicked off with the Under-14 league, where 11-year-old Hormuz Patel of Pune, carrying on his fine form from the Parsee Gymkhana tournament in February, quickly proved his supremacy. In the Open Singles league qualifying rounds, 16 players advanced to the main draw, where it ultimately came down to the husband-wife team – Zubin-Frenaz final.

In the Veteran singles, Sarosh Shroff bagged the title. In the team event, Parsee Gymkhana had little trouble in retaining their crown. But it was the Doubles Final which provided the maximum thrills. CCI’s Nekzaad Kerawalla, partnering newbie Shihaan Palkhiwalla, offered stiff opposition to the fancied pair of Zubin-Frenaz, before bowing out in five tough fought games. Parsee Gymkhana thus retained the top three titles – ‘Open Singles’, ‘Open Doubles’ and ‘Teams’, besides having a hand in the Jumbled Doubles.
