International Academy of Neurosurgical Anatomy Honours Dr. Keki Turel
On 21st June, 2022, Professor Dr. Keki Turel was felicitated by the prestigious International Academy of Neurosurgical Anatomy (IANA) for his lifetime achievements, during its third global webinar. Having dedicated four decades in the intricate field of Neurosurgery, Dr. Keki Turel is the Managing Trustee at Mumbai Institute of Neurosciences; the Consultant Neurosurgeon, Chairman Emeritus, Dept. of Neurosurgery, Bombay Hospital Institute of Medical Sciences; as also the Chairman of WFNS (World Federation of Neurosurgical Societies) Committee on ‘Complications in Neurosurgery’.
Faculties of IANA are hand-picked and comprise 40 leading neurosurgeon members from as many countries across the globe. This year, IANA honoured Dr. Turel for his Lifetime Achievements, hosting a webinar in recognition of his outstanding services, whence 22 lectures were delivered by presenters from 19 countries, all applauding Dr. Turel’s amazing contribution in glowing terms.
In September 2021, the WFNS Foundation (estb. 1955) honoured him with ‘Masters of Neurosurgery’ Award, with a citation reading, “Dr. Keki Turel is not only a world-class neurosurgeon internationally recognized due to his vast experience in brain operations for top difficulty cases, but also a wonderful person whose charm captivates everybody.”
The WFNS is a professional, scientific, non-governmental organization comprising 130 member Societies, consisting of 5 Continental Associations, 119 National Neurosurgical Societies and 6 Affiliate Societies, representing over 40,000 neurosurgeons worldwide. It aspires to promote global improvement in neurosurgical care, training and research worldwide, by working together with member societies to benefit patients. Over the years, Dr. Keki E Turel has been a part of some of them, serving the Committee on Education and Training for the longest period of nearly two decades, giving over 700 lectures worldwide.
