Celebrating The Perpetuation Of Parsi Legacies!
Dear Readers,
One of the bigger heartaches that comes along with the sorrow of a dwindling population of a community as glorious as ours, is the distressing disappearance of our long-standing legacies, which make us one of the world’s most respected communities, despite our minuscule numbers. This is why we are delighted to share this issue of Parsi Times, brimming with pages celebrating the perpetuation of our lovely legacies… sure to bring a big, bright smile to you this weekend!
While the legacy of entrepreneurship and baking (the unequivocal bastion of our Irani brethren) is being kept alive with the recent launch of ‘Udwada Bakers’ by chef Shezad Marolia – and that too on the very soil of our most sacrosanct Udwada gaam, the dynamic father-son duo – Jehangir and Kaiwan Randeria – have been upholding the erstwhile Parsi stronghold in Bodybuilding, winning a silver and gold (respectively) at the national level!
Our passion for collecting and upkeeping vintage cars and bikes is legendary – and we continue to keep that fire burning, as was evident at VCCCI’s ‘Vintage And Classic Car And Motorcycle Rally’, held last weekend in Pune, where not only did our Parsi/Irani contingent stamp in its palpable presence, but also won multiple top awards! And so recognised is our expertise as car and motorcycle connoisseurs, that even the judges of this prestigious event were us Bawajis – with Er. Marespand Dadachanji and Karl Bhot judging the Car category, and brothers Mehernosh Eduljee and Kerfegar Eduljee judging the Motorcycle and Scooter category!
Our legacy celebrating the Parsi prowess and undying love for cricket was further fortified with hosts Parsee Gymkhana organising the sixth edition of the famous Late Maneck Golvala T-10 Cricket Trophy, under the nurturing and astute leadership of PG’s Cricket Secretary – Khodadad Yazdegardi. We also had our lovely Parsi beauties of Surat proudly parading their gorgeous Garas at the history-making ‘Surat Saree Walkathon’ and instantly becoming the center of attention!
And last but by no means least, a huge kudos to the ‘Give Back To Gamadia Boys Hostel’ initiative organised by ex-Gamadia hostelites, and to organisations like ‘WAPIZ’ for launching the Senior Citizens Initiative – ‘HELPING HANDS’ (published in last week’s edition) – which keep alive and reinforce the very essence of what it means to be Parsi, with their selfless community initiatives reinforcing the most integral of all Parsi legacies – Philanthropy.
