PG Retains Top Spot In District Inter-Club TT
In the 1st Division inter-club table tennis league held from 15th-18th May, 2017, under the Mumbai City District TT Association, Parsee Gymkhana (PG) – represented by Zubin Taraporewalla, Arzan Khambatta, Rayomand Marolia, Sarosh Shroff and Hoshang Katrak – played exceptionally to retain their First Division spot. After outplaying MLWB ‘E’ and CCI on the first two days, PG came up against top-rated teams – PJ Hindu Gymkhana ‘A’ & ‘B’ and MLWB ‘A’ & ‘D’. Zubin comfortably won all matches against top-ranked Saurabh Mohite, Tanmay Rane, Gaurav Parte and Dev Shroff, but the PG team failed to outdo opponents. A freak eye-injury in the match’s opening stages against former national Noel Pinto (MLWB ‘D’), saw Zubin go down fighting, thus missing out on replicating last year’s feat of remaining unbeaten through the tournament.
In the 2nd Division, Students YMCA, with two Parsi players (Percy Mehta and Homiyar Mohta), won the Gold.
