Psoriasis And Homeopathy

Psoriasis is a long-lasting skin disorder typically characterized by red, itchy and scaly patches on the skin. It is a relapsing skin disease in which skin cells rapidly rise from their origin below the surface of the skin and mount up on the surface before they mature resulting into thick patches on the skin.

Psoriasis can affect people of all ages — even though it has a distinctive tendency to affect young adults around age 20 and the elderly in their late fifties or after sixty years of age.

Globally, about 3 in 100 people suffer from psoriasis.

Facts On Psoriasis

  • Psoriasis can increase the risk of developing chronic and serious disorders, such as hypertension, cardiovascular disease, depression, metabolic syndrome and liver disease
  • The prevalence of depression in psoriasis averages around 30 per cent
  • Patients with psoriasis and psoriatic arthritis have an elevated risk of certain types of cancers, such as lymphoma and non-melanoma skin cancer

Causes Of Psoriasis

Though the actual cause of psoriasis is yet not known, research suggests that the underlying problem can be an abnormal immune response, which causes symptoms on the skin and occasionally affects the joints.

Most individuals affected by the disorder point out that their problem first appeared after experiencing a stressful situation, thereby suggesting that stress can be one of the most common triggers of psoriasis. Other causes include skin injury and severe sore throat. However, what triggers psoriasis is not universal to all. What may cause psoriasis in one individual may not cause the disorder in another.

Researchers are still investigating how and why psoriasis develops. Some say it is likely that our immune system and heredity play an important role in its development. If both parents are affected, their children have a 60 per cent chance of developing the condition. Interestingly, some people with mild symptoms of psoriasis may be unaware of its existence.

A few factors that can increase the risk of psoriasis are:

  • A family history of psoriasis
  • Recurring infections
  • Stress
  • Obesity
  • Smoking

Homeopathy Treatment For Psoriasis

Research-based evidence suggests that homeopathy can successfully treat psoriasis. A study published in the Journal of the European Academy of Dermatology and Venereology has shown that homeopathy can reduce the symptoms of psoriasis and improve the quality of life, without many side-effects.

More than 25,000 cases of psoriasis have been successfully treated at Dr. Batra’s over the last 35 years with over 90 per cent success rate further demonstrating the proven efficacy of homeopathic remedies in treating psoriasis. In fact, a study conducted by A.C. Nielson showed that as compared to general practitioners, specialists and local homeopaths, a higher than average improvement is seen at Dr. Batra’s in treatment of skin ailments.

Homeopathy not only treats psoriasis effectively but also strengthens overall immunity of a person. The success of treatment depends on the duration and severity of the illness. Recent onset cases and milder cases respond faster as compared to longer duration and extensively spread psoriasis.
