Community Call: Sanjan Day Centennial Celebrations!
As our Community gears up to celebrate hundred years of the Sanjan Memorial Column on 16th November, 2017, the Trustees of Sanjan Anjuman are putting in every effort to make this historic Sanjan Day one to remember for years to come. The Sanjan Memorial Column was built to immortalize the historic landing of our forefathers in India on the sacred soil of Sanjan. As per the Takhti on the Column, the column was built by Parsis in memory of their Iranian ancestors who escaped Iran to protect and preserve the religion, and settled in Sanjan under the protection of the kind ruler, Jadi Rana.
The Itinerary:
SANJAN Day offers the unique opportunity to all Parsis and Iranis from different walks of life from India and all over the world to get together on the sacred soil of Sanjan and unitedly reminisce, pray and celebrate the occasion. The celebrations will start at 8:00 am on Thursday, the 16th of November, with a Jashan ceremony performed by Mobeds of Nargol and Saronda, and another Jashan at 9:00 am performed by Vada Dasturji Khurshedji Dastoor, followed by a Humbandagi, community programs and the finale – a sumptuous Parsi meal served for all. You can also pray at the Kukadaru Saheb Agiari next door and indulge in traditional shopping including Udvada biscuits, bhakras, traditional artefacts, religious articles, etc.
Travel:
The Gujarat Express and Flying Ranee trains will halt at Sanjan on Sanjan Day in both the directions, courtesy Western Railway.
The Centennial celebrations will also mark the felicitation of Udvada’s Vada Dasturji Khurshed Dastoor. As per Trustee and caretakers, Bapsy and Pareecheher Davierwala, “We are felicitating our Vada Dasturji Khurshed Dastur, high Priest of Udwada for his appointment as Member of the National Commission for Minorities, Government of India. Besides the appointment, as Udwada’s High Priest he has been heading religious prayers each year at Sanjan on this Day. Hence it is our delight and privilege to felicitate him on the auspicious occasion. Sanjan holds an extremely important position for every Parsi Zoroastrian – let all us Zoroastrians come together in Sanjan in thanksgiving and promise to live up to the tenets of Humata, Hukhata, Huvarashta; and work towards preserving our community’s ethics, values and culture.”
