Free Diabetes Detection Camp Held
With diabetes rapidly growing into a health epidemic across India and within the community, Lion Daara Patel (Chairperson for Diabetes, Multiple Council District 3231, Lions Clubs International) has been spearheading a Diabetes Awareness Program, which includes Free Diabetes Detection Camp and Awareness program across many places in and around Mumbai.
A free mega diabetes detection camp and awareness program was held on 14th November, 2022, commemorating World Diabetes Day. It comprised two presentations – made by doctors covering ‘Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR)’ – a lifesaving technique; and a talk on this year’s world diabetes day theme – ‘Access to Diabetes Education’. The camp helped over 10,000 less-privileged people to randomly check their diabetes. The event was well attended by the International Directors, Past District Governors and Club Presidents and members. During the camp, District 3231 – A2 being awarded by Asia Book of Records for conducting over 7,000 random diabetes checks in one day.
“Diabetes is a common disease but is unfortunately ignored. In fact, India is known as the Diabetes Capital of the World,” said Lion Daara Patel. He stressed on the fact that if detected early, diabetes could be prevented or even reversed by medication and diet, thus saving lives in the process. Lions Clubs International has kept Diabetes as one of the five major global services.
