From The Editor’s Desk

Dear Readers,

As we head towards commemorating India’s seventy-third Independence Day, history has been made with the present day government scrapping Article 370, revoking Special Status to Jammu and Kashmir and passing the J&K Reorganisation Bill 2019, paving the way for the division into two Union Territories — Jammu and Kashmir, and Ladakh.

The reactions, as expected, are mixed – while some are saluting this bold move to ‘liberate Kashmir from separatists and prevent it from being used for Pakistani or terror agendas’, others are lamenting the ‘death of democracy’. While the jury’s still out, let’s patiently wait and watch before we jump to conclusions based on hearsay, and hope that the move delivers on its promise, for the sake of the Kashmiris, and Indians, and also, democracy.

Next Saturday, the 17th of August, marks our much anticipated Parsi New Year and as always, Parsi Times brings you a bumper issue, that is sure to further supplement the festive mood. With ‘Parsipanu’ as its theme, comprising fun contests and articles celebrating our culture, religion, quirks and a fair dose of humour, ensure you don’t miss out on your copy of PT’s New Year Special issue next Saturday!

Have a good weekend! Wish you a Happy Independence Day!

– Anahita
